In addition to wrinkles and creases, our skin loses volume, elasticity, and hydration as we get older. Dr. Yau uses fillers to combat these undesirable signs of aging by sculpting and lifting the face, thereby restoring volume and producing a more natural and youthful appearance.
Many of Dr. Yau’s patients will receive fillers to assist with:
- smoothing of deep wrinkles
- adding volume to areas that appear hollowed out
- adding volume to address asymmetries in the face
- making lips look fuller
- chin augmentation
- sagging jawline and jowls
- addressing marionette lines
During your initial consultation, Dr. Yau will carefully assess your areas of concern and provide a comprehensive approach to your needs. Different facial anatomy necessitates different treatment options, and Dr. Yau will provide a treatment plan that is
customized for you.
The most versatile fillers available today contain hyaluronic acid which is a safe and naturally occurring sugar that our bodies already produce. Hyaluronic acid stimulates collagen production and attracts water molecules to the tissues to add volume. The effects of fillers can last variable amounts of time depending on the individual, the type of filler used and how mobile specific tissues are.
Facial filler injections are performed as an in-office procedure and are a quick and effective procedure that is capable of taking years off your face. Very specific volumes of the filler are injected into targeted areas. Some fillers are used in combination with a local anesthetic. Depending on how many areas are treated and the volume and type of filler, the procedure usually takes between 30 and 60 minutes. Dr. Yau works together with her patients to build an individualized treatment plan that can be dramatic or subtle, depending on patient goals.
Following treatment with fillers, patients should avoid exercise and vigorous activities for the remainder of the day. Any activity that could cause an increase in heart rate or inflammation should also be avoided, such as steam rooms, hot tubs or other exposure to excessive heat. Dermal fillers can result in minor swelling and occasionally a small amount of bruising which is no cause for concern and usually resolves quickly. The results are visible immediately and patients can resume non-strenuous daily activities right away.
